When Krrish was released, Krrish masks were a rage at kids’ birthday. Kids are taken in by the variety of film merchandise on offer
parties.
The Chronicles of Narnia, Transporter, The Dark Night, Superman have all produced their merchandise that have caught the fancy of
children and adults alike. With movie merchandise finding ready takers, manufacturers have come up with ideas that combine education with
entertainment. The latest is the Taare Zameen Par do-it-yourself product kit that not only offers entertainment for kids, but also makes them exercise
their grey cells with its study boxes and books. How is it so? Naim Halai, director of a company which manufactures these products, explains,
“Taare Zameen Par dealt with dyslexia, and the range of products has been designed specifically to test the motor and identification skills of
kids.”
While the TZP kit aspires to be different, the regular merchandise of films like The Dark Knight, Ratatouille, Madagascar and
Horton Hears a Who consists of stationery, lifestyle products and so much more. Manisha Bokay, a teacher and mother, says, “In our
neighbourhood, most kids are in the same age group. So, when one of them gets something like this, everyone wants it. These days, you get such a huge
variety of them that I wish I had some of them when I was growing up.” Aniruddh Sahay, a marketing manager, says, “As kids, we used to
flaunt police outfits. But, our kids have a greater choice. Going back home from work, I feel happy when my children greet me with Krrish masks or don
a Batman or a Superman costume. It’s good to have a superhero as a kid. They shouldn’t be denied such simple pleasures,” says he. We
agree.
