Posted by admin | 589 Views

Panaji: Setting the mood for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa Chief Minister has announced the organisation of the three-day Patriotic Film Festival to be held in the state beginning from August 7.

The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a nodal agency to host IFFI, will organise this festival at the venues designated for IFFI in Panaji and Margao.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Aamir Khan and Manoj Kumar would be special invitees for the festival, Kamat said adding various films produced spanning across four decades will be showcased during the festival.

Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti, starring Aamir Khan, will be the opening film of the three-day festival.

Some of the other films which will be screened are Farhan Akhtar's 'Lakshya', Manoj Kumar's 'Upkaar', Sohraab Modi's 'Sikandar' and Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Lagaan'.

Incidently, the patriotic film festival will set pace for the IFFI 2009 which will be held in November-December.

"We have finalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for the festival," Kamat, who also chairs the ESG, said.

The ESG officials stated besides certain sections like foreign retrospective, short film centre, country focus and Indian premiers, more programming assignments are likely to be added to ESG's kitty this year.
