Two years after Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par hit the big screen, the children at the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP) in
Kolkata’s Taratala area were pleasantly surprised when a long, hand-written letter from the actor landed at the school premises, praising their
performance in a five-minute dance sequence they had shot using a song from the movie as the theme.
In the four-page letter dated March 26,
2009, that reached the school recently, the actor congratulated the children at the IICP for their dance performance made in the backdrop of
movie’s theme song Bum Bum Bole, which was recorded into a DVD in April 2008 and sent across to the actor-director later that year.
The
institute has now put the treasured letter on display in the premises for the children catch a glimpse of it when they are not busy attending
classes.
IICP deputy director of communications Subhra Chatterjee said, “It was a moment of pride when we got the letter from Aamir
Khan. These children have performed on so many occasions and at so many places. But to get an acknowledgement from Aamir Khan, the man who made Taare
Zameen Par, is a huge motivation for these children. We are all proud that Aamir was moved by the performance, so much so that he wrote back to the
children personally,” she said.
In his letter, which touched a chord with the children undergoing treatment at the IICP, Aamir wrote:
“As I woke up and watched the DVD... I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the day... It was such a joy to watch you all perform
with such energy and abandon... It is very well choreographed and performed.”
“In my profession, we say that the key to a good
performance is to enjoy yourself while doing it... Thank you for giving me a good time, and thank you all for sending me the DVD. And I am so glad
you all chose one of my favourite songs,” the actor wrote. A troupe of 20-odd kids, who are disadvantaged with various deformities and
undergoing treatment at the institute, have been giving dance performances to peppy Bollywood numbers on various occasions.
