Ghajini to be screened in Bollywood Film Festival in Korea

India draws visitors from around the globe who are interested in its cuisine, spiritual traditions and sights. Koreans have also demonstrated a
growing interest in the country, as the growing number of yoga classes, restaurants and shops selling Indian goods in Seoul seems to show. A new film festival, the first event in Korea dedicated to the Indian cinema, offers yet another view of the country, through the films of Bollywood, India’s equivalent of Hollywood and one of the most visible parts of the Indian film industry. The festival precedes the Korea-India summit scheduled for next week in India, and gives Korean moviegoers a chance to get to know Korea’s summit partner. “Namaste Bollywood - 2010 Indian Film Festival” kicked off yesterday at the Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Theater in Jayang-dong, southeastern Seoul, and will run until Jan. 24. The event is hosted by the Foreign Ministry and the JoongAng Ilbo. The program features eight films that are representative of the contemporary Bollywood style, which usually combines elements of storytelling, song and dance. Most of the films in the festival were made in the 2000s and were popular at the time of their release in their home country. The screening schedule includes the films: “Om Shanti Om” (2007), “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” (2006), “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” (2008), “Dhoom 2” (2006), “Dostana” (2008), “Ghajini” (2008), “Veer Zaara” (2004) and “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (1995). “For those who are curious to know how Indian cinema presents love stories, ‘Veer Zaara,’ ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘Dostana’ are recommended,” said Jeong Gwang-hyeon, an Indian film expert who helped select the films being screened at the festival. “Those who are more interested in action should see ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Dhoom 2.’” Admission is free and tickets will be distributed at the venue on a first come, first served basis an hour and a half before a given screening.
